hit the ground running

It's been awhile. Sorry about that.
I landed here in Phoenix nearly three and a half weeks ago and I tried to hit the ground running. I made few arrangements beforehand other than to have my job secure and my suitcases packed. I set a day to buy a car, a day to find an apartment, a day to buy furniture, and a day for groceries and the rest.
I shotgunned the whole process. It was quick, and it helped keep me busy. That way, I didn't think about the move until quite a bit later. If you've got time to think about change, you've got time to sulk over change.
I fear change. Maybe.
I've been thinking about it a lot.
I've been thinking that I need to find a way to deal with the things I have trouble coping with, and my most effective method has been to force myself into situations where said thing comes up.
I fear change, so I put myself in unstable situations to force a decision toward change to be made.
So: here I am. My time zone dropped back three hours, my sleep schedule back about 6 hours. I went from the great white north to the american desert. Caribou and beavers to diamondbacks and scorpions. Don't get me wrong - I'm as happy as I could reasonably be with my situation. My place of employment has been fantastic and I really like where I'm living.
Still, it's a drastic change, I suppose, but it enables one thing:
it makes it a lot easier to hit the ground running.

I myself moved from Montreal, QC to L.A. a few months ago, it is a big change, I can see how you feel.
Good luck at the new place, the new job and facing your challenges. I think the stress from the change is only normal. But the experience of having seen new places, people, customs and everything... I like having a new perspective on things :D
