The 35 sexiest designed websites you've forgotten
October 26, 2005: 7:01 PM
What with CSS Reboot right around the corner and fresh designs in short supply given the Nov. 1st deadline is so near, I've decided to refresh your memory, with the sexiest designed websites you may have forgotten about. I refuse to discriminate here, either: I'm willing to be wowed by CSS and XHTML with some AJAX and whatnot thrown in, and I'm just as willing to be wowed by a great Flash-based interface. If it catches my eye, It's golden.
Here are my 35 picks for sexiest designed websites, website type in brackets, and a brief explanation of why you should love it, too.
Forgetfoo (CSS, Blog Design). So many neat features. This is very nice blog design.
Pixel Gasoline" (Flash). Montreal design firm, complete with doo-wop playing in the background.
Bubblewrap (Flash, Illustration). The Aussies have something good going for them here.
Electric Heat (Print and Graphic Design). Skills to pay the bills, indeed. When I'm famous, this is the guy I'm calling about doing my CD cover art.
Subdued.net (CSS design). Great attention to detail. The main site graphic sells me with how brilliant it is.
New Ezra (Flash). Sopretty. The shifting colours and animations in the banner sell me on it.
Oral Fixation Mints (Flash, Interactive). I suddenly have a ridiculous craving for mints. These mints. Is it the solid interactive design that sells me, or the fact that one of the mints is called Sugar Free Tibet? The world may never know.
Mis i Pile (CSS, Logo Design). That's a lot of logos. Hot damn.
letinmotion2005 (Flash, Interactive). Wow, this is hott. Extensive attention is paid to detail. I love the mouseovers.
bendableelement (CSS, Print/Media Design). Great work, minimalist site. I like it a lot.
Poxygen (CSS, Blog Design). Great colours, great menu work. It all flows so nicely!
Avalonstar (CSS, Blog Design). What can I say about avalonstar that hasn't been said a thousand times already? So fresh, so clean.
BBDO (Flash, Interactive, Media Design). Really nice work! Makes you want to keep clicking.
WORK ROCKS (Flash). Great interface, great background music, great user experience.
SOzu Web Design (CSS). I'm not going to lie, the logo and menu alone would've sold me on this beauty. Great user interface.
StevenNet (Flash). Really clean and crisp looking. Minimalistic. Kudos.
SNDK.no (Flash). The mouseovers... OH GOOD LORD THE MOUSEOVERS ARE SO BEAUTIFUL
Silas and Maria (Flash). Great interface! Very original, very inspiring.
finish (Flash). Again, the interface catches my eye. Movement makes me want to click everything. a lot.
Petr Vadura Design (Flash, Interface). Took me a few minutes to figure out the interface and menu system, but when I did, boy did I have myself a time.
Lovebird (Flash). I feel like the site is made just for me. Tres chic.
Our Vice (Flash). I'm just wowed all around by this site. Very clean, very nice use of minimalistic menu systems.
Jonathan Snook (CSS, Blog Design). I'm blown away by the extreme attention to detail here. The colour scheme is also very appealing. Makes me proud to be Canadian.
Perfect Fools (Flash). Great layout! Multiple layers in flash that obstruct my view juussssst enough.
PiotrowskiMichal (Flash). I've always had a soft spot for cityscapes.
nemstudio (Flash). Soshiney. Soglossy.
LOBO (Flash, Media and Video Design). Great work! I love the monochromatic look.
Calibre Pics (Flash). Cool interface and work and all, but... can I just say how much I love the background music? It brings me back to the days when I would just sit around and play flyguy for hours on end.
Paregos (Flash). Sorelaxing.
ExplodingBoy (CSS, Blog Design). Sominimalistic. Sharp and sweet. One columned blogging at it's best.
subsociety (Flash). I'm not sold on the interface yet, but the transitions make this stick out in my mind.
Mocafusion (Flash). I don't know what to say. I'm just in awe. Perhaps the overall sexiest site I've ever come across.
Enjoy Green Grass (Flash). Great transitions, great background music, great mouseovers. High quality stuff.
Pixelica (Flash). Great interface design, background music, and transitions make me ignore the fact that I don't know what they're saying in Italian.
Fluid (Flash). Holy shit, there's a lot of stuff to click on here. Very original setup.
What else should be here? What would you put on your list?
Thanks for the comments: Jordan, Aileen, Chris.
